Abandon Normal Devices

AND is a Film Festival that is held primarily in my hometown of Manchester. I remember last year the promotion around the festival really caught my eye and think that the combination of vibrant colours juxtaposed with collaged photographic imagery works well to grab peoples attention and promote the cause.

Abandon Normal Devices (AND) is a major regional festival of new cinema and digital culture already in its second year and is driven by an exciting new partnership between three of the UK’s leading art and culture institutions. Cornerhouse in Manchester, FACT (Foundation for Art and Creative Technology) in Liverpool and Folly in Lancaster have joined forces to collaborate on the exciting task of creating a new festival from scratch.

After developing a strong, recognisable brand, we created a high impact marketing campaign to ensure maximum visibility in the targeted locations. Our approach used juxtaposing imagery, vibrant colours and wit to visually represent the variety of work being celebrated at the festival. Numbers for the festival were considerably higher from the previous year, with a high percentage of young people attending all the events. 66% of visitors were under the age of 35 and 37% under the age of 25. The festival also attracted people to the region as 19% of those who attended were from outside the North West, a great testament to the festival’s success.
